Detroit Catholic Central repeats at CHSL Bishop Division champion

Detroit Catholic Central used superior depth to bring home another Catholic High School League Bishop Division boys cross country championship. The Shamrocks totaled 32 points to position themselves well ahead of runner-up Dearborn Divine Child (69) and third-place University of Detroit Jesuit (74). All of the Shamrocks’ varsity seven placed in the top 16, four of them in the top 10. Brett Leidal was Catholic Central’s top finisher, placing second in 17:08.9. Right behind was Matthew Atkinson (third), and the Shamrocks’ scorers also included Michael Ehresman (sixth), Miles Buckley (ninth) and Jack Kelly (12th). Dearborn Divine Child junior Michael Hegarty won the individual championship – his second in a row – by a wide margin, lading the Falcons into the finalist spot. Hegarty had a winning time of 16:22.8, 46 seconds ahead of Catholic Central’s Leidal. Besides Catholic Central, Divine Child was the only team to place three runners in the top 10.
