Bloomfield Hills Marian wins 20th CHSL championship for retiring coach

Despite entering the tournament as the fourth seed (out of six), Bloomfield Hills Marian gave retiring coach Mary Cicerone her 20th Catholic High School League Girls Basketball Bishop Division championship as Marian held off Dearborn Divine Child, 44-36. Cicerone (then Mary Lillie) won Marian's first CHSL title in 1986. Marian (12-6), which never trailed in the contest, was paced by senior guard Anna Herberholz, who scored a game-high 24 points. Defensively, Elle Ervin and Sarah Sylvester clamped down on Divine Child’s top player, Kennedy Blair, limiting her to 12 points (two field goals). Divine Child, which had beaten Marian twice in the regular season, fell to 15-3.
