Bloomfield Hills Marian repeats as CHSL Bishop Division Champions

Division 1 No. 1-ranked Bloomfield Hills Marian swept Division 1 No. 5-ranked Farmington Hills Mercy 3-0 to earn its second consecutive Catholic High School League Bishop Division Volleyball Championship. Marian won 25-16, 25-11, 25-9, sweeping the season series from Mercy without dropping a set. The Mustangs improved to 45-1 with the victory.

Miss Volleyball finalist senior Ava Brizard, senior Janiah Jones, senior Sarah Sylvester, junior Ava Sarafa, and senior Sophie Treder each had strong games for the Mustangs. Marian beat Wixom St. Catherine of Siena 3-0 and Mercy beat Dearborn Divine Child 3-0 in the semifinals.

Warren Regina repeats as CHSL Cardinal Division Champions

Warren Regina downed Macomb Lutheran North 3-1 to repeat as the Catholic High School League Cardinal Division Volleyball Champions. Regina won 25-18, 15-25, 25-21, 25-16. Reagan Stempin made eight kills and 36 assists and Olivia Dobbs had 20 kills and eight digs to lead the Saddlelites (15-15). Kamrynn Harvey had seven kills and four blocks and Ella Sikorski made 13 digs for Regina. North beat Ann Arbor Greenhills 3-0 and Regina downed Marine City Cardinal Mooney 3-2 in the semifinals.

The Edith Glusac Award is presented to the outstanding scholar-athlete in volleyball. This award, renamed in 1990, honors Glusac, a life-long Detroiter and contributor to girls' athletics. Glusac is a former swimming, basketball, field hockey and tennis coach and officiated basketball, volleyball and swimming in the Catholic League for nearly 50 years. Retired from the Detroit Public Schools -- where she served as physical education teacher, counselor and administrator -- she continues to officiate volleyball and swimming and work with younger officials and athletes. For her contributions, she was enshrined in the officials/referees wing of the Catholic League Hall of Fame in 1980.
